This portrait on copper was created from an image displayed as a historical poster and advertisement for a show that took place in the Royal Palace of Milan. The grace and beauty of the image provided a fitting piece for the narrative painting, Cafe Milan. Gabriel’s image seems almost eternal as it guards the young lady in the narrative as well as the many patrons visiting Piazza Duomo and Cafe Milan. I refined this old classical image and it became my Angel Gabriel a gentle merciful redeemer. I gave this piece a finer finish to be an independent portrait and though the pose was inspired by the poster my image is an amalgamated view of all angels from historical paintings that I have studied.
