My inspiration for this piece came from studying 19thC old masters’ female portraitures, James Whistler in particular. He used to call his paintings by a name associated with musical pieces such as Harmonies and Symphonies which made me think of paintings as music as well and inspired me to study 19thC British Painting on a deeper level. The images of these paintings play a special role in my creative process and serve as a revolving door for my inspiration. I called my painting a Requiem, a mass for the souls of the masters that shared their gift of knowledge by creating works of timeless beauty for us. |
